Historical Notes

Kyle Stubbs (Email to Nauticapedia 29/11/2022) stated "The rather decrepit BROTHER BUZZ (266461) offered a mostly clear history, apart from her present lot in life. According to the MVUS and her hull number, this vessel was built by Mare Island Naval Shipyard in 1941 as the Navy boat 16648, and first documented c.1953 as the passenger vessel WHIRL-A-WAY, measured at 40' x 10.7', for a Raymond B. Anderson of San Francisco. Later names included K.-W., CORINNE II and PATTIE L. While the Navy Yards built boats as needed, making it hard to say what any particular boat was, and she's been diced up enough it's hard to say which parts are original or not, the aft tumblehome, transom and haphazard rudder configuration have me assuming this vessel was built as a 40' Motor Launch."
