Story

This yacht, power-cruiser was built in 1947 by Phillips, Ernest A. in Prince Rupert, BC.

Historical Notes

Martin Swan (Email to Nauticapedia 23/11/2024) stated "My name is Martin Swan. My father, Dr. Alan Swan, purchased the Alern directly from Mr. Ernest Phillips in February, 1964. I know my father dealt directly with Mr. Phillips on the purchase of Alern. My father hired Harold Clay from Pender Harbour to carry out a pre-purchase survey. Mr. Phillips grew concerned when Mr. Clay started poking the planks and ribs with an ice pick in search of dry rot - which there was none. It was agreed that my father would rename the boat as Mr. Phillips was wanting to use the name Alern on his new boat that he was building. So my parents named the boat Manulele. Alern had a data plate mounted at the helm stating she was launched in June, 1947, at Prince Rupert, BC Canada. By the time my father purchased Alern, she had been repowered with an 8 cylinder Chrysler Imperial marine engine, equipped with 2 - 4 barrel carburetors."
