Story

This freighter was built in 1963 by National Steel & Shipbuilding Co (NASSCO) in San Diego, CA.

Historical Notes

On September 4, 1972 the freighter Aegean Sea collided with the freighter C.E. Dant (operated by the States Lines) in Juan de Fuca Strait. This ship was on a voyage from Seattle to Longview. The two freighters remained stuck together with the bow of the C.E. Dant in the port side of the Aegean Sea which suffered serious damage to her forward holds. Salvage operators awaited favourable tides when the vessels would be in shallower water in case they had to be beached.

They were seperated after 67 hours locked together. The C.E. Dant proceeded to Seattle under her own power.

Owners & Masters

She was delivered to the Maritime Administration, February 6, 1963, for operation by States Lines, San Francisco CA.
