Notas históricas
In 1861 this vessel was transferred from the US Lighthouse Service to the US Revenue Service. This vessel spent the Civil War as the guard ship to San Francisco. The US Revenue Cutter Shubrick was nearly captured by Confederate agents during the US Civil War in Victoria around 1863. Letters of Marque were issued to the southern sympathizers in Victoria by Confederate States President Jefferson Davies and they planned to capture the Shubrick in Victoria and start raiding US gold ships and burning mills along the US west Coast. The Confederates had convinced most of the crew of the Shubrick to take over the vessel when in Victoria but northern spies had got wind of the plot and what were thought to be passengers on the Shubrick going to Victoria turned out to be a replacement crew. When the Shubrick crossed the border in the Strait of Juan de Fuca the new crew took control of the Shubrick and the old crew was discharged in Victoria. On June 9, 1864 HMS Forward collided with the U.S.R.C. Shubrick in Esquimalt Harbour causing damage to both vessels.
In 1865 this vessel was supporting the Western Union expedition to string a telegraph cable from North America to St. Petersburg Russia. On September 8, 1867 this vessel was driven ashore 30 miles south of Cape Mendocino CA. This vessel was salvaged and put back into service.
In 1886 this vessel was sold out of service. Her new owners drove her ashore and stripped her and burned the hull to recover all metals.
