Historical Notes
George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 24/05/2025) stated "There were three SSN's afloat at the sub base, and another up in the drydock. Rumor has it that they purposely never let the prop be seen, but in reality, the San Diego requirement to prevent any particulates from entering the air explains the curtain we usually see over the drydock, and the need to prevent even the slightest damage to the prop explains why when we do see one, it's still often covered. I simply was fascinated by the markings on the covering on here, as if they were using second-hand fairgrounds posters, and the strong-backs visible underneath, presuming those aren't top secret additions to the props. Since noise is the give-away for a submarine, even the slightest imperfection in the prop would give away her presence easier, and worse, could fingerprint her as an individual unit."
