Historische Notizen

Joy Davis (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 25/04/2020) stated "The other sailboat that played a big part in my family's life was Whereaway, a Bill Garden design 37' double-ender. Dad worked with a shipwright to build her in a shed at the head of Cumshewa Inlet and launched her in 1954. I think the trip south to Vancouver immediately after this vessel was launched was one of Dad's first sailing adventure as he was prairie boy. This vessel had a big Cummins Diesel engine -- and the story goes that the first aluminum mast built by Jeremy Hewitt of Bosun's Locker was stepped somewhere around 1958. Not entirely sure of the details but I do remember following a group of men carrying the mast down the streets of North Vancouver (I think) to where the boat was tied in. In those days Mom and Dad kept her at RVYC Coal Harbour and then at Silva Bay when they moved us to Bath Island in 1963."
