Story
This tug was built in 1955 by Equitable Equipment Co. Inc. in New Orleans, LA.
Historical Notes
On November 3. 2001 her crew vanished overboard while towing a barge in Stuart Narrows north of Port McNeill. Captain Lonnie Edward Berrow (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 05/09/2018) stated that " this incident occurred close to Stuart Narrows near the entrance to Drury Inlet in around 2001. The tug was found circling around with the ramp barge MBM 60 with her crew of two missing by a passing crew boat. No distress call transmitted -- vessel's safety equipment -- including life jackets -- still on board. It was speculated that the crew may have been back aft shortening up the towline and the wire may have come up hard causing the men to be thrown overboard. It was foggy that morning and this could have contributed to the accident. There was a small amount of seawater in the wheelhouse that would indicate this vessel was heeled over at some point and the bodies where never found despite an extensive search. The Coast Guard stated that whatever happened was extremely quick -- weather was not seen a factor." Alison Kwasnycia (Email to Nauticapedia 18/11/2020) stated "My husband was one of the people never found."
