Notas históricas

This freighter under the command of Captain Fred A. Hovick was bound for western Alaska with supplies for her owners, the Bering Sea Fisheries Co. for their codfishing outstations. This vessel was carrying a cargo of coal, oil, and general freight. This vessel struck a rocky ledge that extends out into the channel. On backing off this vessel began to take water, and the Captain's hopes of reaching Port Hardy were rapidly revised. This vessel came to rest on a sandy bottom with only her masts showing aboove the water having slipped after the evacuation of her passengers and crew to the shore. Efforts to remove the wireless set from the ship to set it up on shore were about to be successful when relief arrived. The American steamer Admiral Rodman and HMCS Thiepval arrived in quick succession to give aid to the survivors who were waiting on shore. The Admiral Rodman brought the survivors back to Seattle. On December 28th, Marsh & McLennan, the insurance agents asked for bids from salvagers.
