Historical Notes

On January 02, 1902, loaded with 2,400 tons of coal from Ladysmith BC for the Treadwell Mine at Juneau AK, this vessel stranded on a reef at the entrance to Millbanke Sound, (on a rock laying between Gray and Green Islands) where this vessel broke up and sank. (The TSBC reports the location as between Gray and Green Islands in Chatham Strait BC). Her forward section was jammed in the rocks with the afterpart still afloat. After a few hours the bow was submerged and the stern sank too. Six crewmen were lost including the Captain. The rest of the crew of 20 were rescued by the Cottage City. The Pilot, T.W.
