Story

This yacht, sail (sloop-rigged) was built in 1951 by Holder's Shipyard in Saint John, NB.

Historical Notes

Charles Quinn (Email to Nauticapedia 06/01/2022) states "my father The Reverend Lea Gillard bought her (Yonder Peasant) in 1953 or 1954 on the Bras d’Or Lakes on Cape Breton where this vessel was held hostage as her original owners, were charged with rum running from St. Pierre and Miquelon.

They had to sell the boat to pay their fines; my dad bought it from them. When the RCN sent him back to Esquimalt, the Yonder Peasant was put on a freighter and brought through the Panama Canal as a deck cargo. This vessel was off-loaded in Vancouver and made the rest of the journey to Esquimalt on board a RCM supply vessel. The boat’s interior was not finished until 1958 when the CPR Ferry Strike made a couple of shipwrights available. Dad sold the boat in 1966 just before he died."
