On July 3, 1956 the Waitemata was in a collision with the fishboat B.C. Troller, seven miles south southeast of Lennard Island BC Canada.

In 1946-1967 she was owned by Union Steamship Co. of New Zealand.
In 1967 she was owned by Greek owners.
