Story

This ferry, passenger was built in 1931 by Moore Drydock Co., Oakland CA.

Historical Notes

In 1931 this vessel was built as a ferry for service between San Diego and Coronado CA. This vessel operated briefly by Olympic Ferries on the Port Townsend - Keystone route. George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 20/08/2021) stated "This photo shows her tied to Decker Island in the Sacramento Delta of California, when this vessel hadn’t been badly stripped. When sold by San Diego, the first news reports said this vessel was being readied for service in Vietnam and was renamed KAH TAI. I never saw anything more about that, and it doesn’t show up in McCurdy’s history, but it may not have happened in his Northwest. Following her 1984 sale, the vessel was renamed San Diego and painted with her original markings for use as a restaurant vessel in San Diego Bay. I don’t know where this vessel was at this point, but to my knowledge never returned to San Diego, and the project was never approved by the local authorities.

In 1994 news reports stated this vessel was in the San Francisco Bay area and was intended to be opened as Huckleberries Restaurant at Antioch CA in the Sacramento Delta region, which also never happened. This vessel haunted various waterfronts around the Bay/Delta area until her condition got bad enough that in 2011 the California State Lands Commission took possession of her, and in 2012 this vessel was scraped at Mare Island, CA. "
