Story

This survey vessel was built in 1952 by Paasch Marine in Erie, PA.

Historical Notes

George Schneider (Aug 2026) writes: Between 1965 and 2008 this vessel was out of documentation, so there's no public record of who owned her or what names she had during that time. Her appearance is quite unchanged from the photo of her on the BGSU site referenced below.

Owners & Masters

In 1954-1992 she was owned by the State of Ohio (Dept of Natural Resources), Sandusky OH USA.

In 2009-2022 she was owned by Ronald Yanega, Perry OH USA.

In 2026 she was owned by the Yanega Revocable Trust, Cleveland OH USA.

Name Significance

The name SE 1 reflected her work for the Shore Erosion division of the State of Ohio's Department of Natural Resources. She was renamed GS 1 when that division was renamed the Geologic Survey Division.
