Story

This buoy & light tender (inland) was built in 1969 by United States Coast Guard Shipyard in Curtis Bay, MD.

Historical Notes

George Schneider (Aug 2026) Writes: She was an experimental buoy tender, the first (and only) experiment with the USCG hoisting buoys over the stern. It allowed the handling of buoys that usually required a vessel twice her size, but there were many other problems with the design and it was never repeated. Although the Navy hung onto the boat over a decade, there is no evidence they ever used her.
