George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 07/12/2021) stated "A total of 370 of these Coast Guard 29-footer Defiant class have been built. These are the same design as the Navy's harbor security boats, which they rate as 32-footers. The design is that of her builder, Metal Shark Boats of Jeanerette LA. The 29's are classed as type RB-S II, meaning Response Boat, Small, and the II indicates they're the second major class, replacing the Safe Boat 25-foot "Defender" class of 20 years ago."
