Namensbedeutung

Peleliu is the site of a WWII Amphibious landing and battle in the Palau Islands of Micronesia. The vessel was first unofficially given the name Khe Sanh and later officially named Da Nang, both Vietnam war sites, but following the embarrassing end of the Vietnam conflict, the Navy gave this ship a WWII name prior to commissioning.
