故事

This fishboat, longliner was built in 1950 by Warren Robert in LaHave, NS.

历史记录

In the late 1940's up to 1950, there was considerable controversy over the regulations and standards relative to the Federal Fishing Vessel Construction Program. One of the major issues was the need for approved drawings and the minimum and maximum lengths allowable for qualification of the subsidy. This matter was resolved by an amendment in 1950 setting the length to be no less than 48 ft and no more than 60ft. Following the design and standards proposed by W.H. Hines and approved in 1950 by the NS Provincial Department of Trade Industry and Commerce for the longliner class of fishing vessel, the David Pauline was the first 55 Ft longliner built and employed in the NS fishery and was the first to qualify for the Federal subsidy. The plan and hull form developed by Mr Hines was considered by many to be a major step froward in fishing vessel design. Research as shown that this hull design was not unique and evolved from a number of inputs between 1946 and 1949. Although touted as being the first Cape Island type longliner built in Nova Scotia, addition research has also revealed that the design and specifications were based on those delayed and used by Clarence Heisler, Young's Island, NS. Between 1946 and 1949, Mr Heisler built four vessels that despite their smaller length of 48 feet (and thus did not qualify for Federal assistance) matched the specifications and design requirements later adapted and established by the provincial government fro longliner construction. The David Pauline was the first Cape Island type longliner to meet the federal subsidy requirements introduced by the 2950 amendment, however there is evidence to suggest is was not the first of this type to be constructed in NS. The vessel was broken up , date unknown.
