Notes historiques
In 1979-1981 this vessel was used as a barge towed by the Pacific Challenge.
In 1993 this vessel was repowered and sold.
In 1997 this vessel was broken up in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Malcolm Watson (Email to Nauticapedia 15/04/2020) stated "As a recently retired Vancouver longshoreman (currently stuck at home with time on my hands) I was tring to find the eventual fate of the Frank H Brown when I discovered your site. As a straddle-carrier driver at the White Pass depot in North Vancouver I spent many hours 'feeding the hook' and have fond memmories of card games on board the ship during coffee breaks and lunch hours. Although both the Frank H Brown and the Klondike were used as barges for 3 years starting in 1979, neither ever had the engines removed. Both ships had their rudders locked and props taken off but remained powered. With falling metal prices and the closure of the Faro mine in 1981, both ships were tied up in North Vancouver and the Klondike never returned to service. The Frank H Brown, however, did.
In 1986, with the re-opening of the Faro mine, the Frank H Brown had its prop restored and was returned to service doing a bi-weekly run between Vancouver and Skagway. The old British Yukon colours were gone and it operated as part of the White Pass Transportation Group. Number two hatch was sealed and converted to a tank to ship diesel fuel for the Faro mine. The ship technically became a tanker but still carried cargo in numbers 3 and 4 hatch and on deck in a service combination that probably wouldn't be allowed under todays safety regulations. This service continued until the Faro mine again closed in 1993 and the ship was sold to Russian interests."
