(He was qualified as a Master Mariner.) He went into the marine business on the Fraser River in 1966 with the steamer Sea Foam which he then took to Moodyville and operated for four years.
He constructed the steamer Chinaman which came from the Orient on A sailing vessel.
He constructed the Lillie using the machinery of the Sea Foam.
In 1874 he built the Leonora and in 1878 the Senator.
He retired in Victoria BC.
