A member of the Order of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate he arrived at Victoria in 1880.
He was a missionary in Northern BC first in the Chilcotin and later at Fort St. James in 1882.
He was an authority on the languages of the Dene.
He was the author of several book of history and a noted amateur anthropologist, ethnologist, cartographer and historian.
He was moved in 1904 to Manitoba.
