Biography

She studied pre-medicine at the University of London in the UK but took an interest in zoology. After time in India, she moved to British Columbia in 1914 and worked in the UBC Zoology Department until 1918 when she moved to Nanaimo and worked as a volunteer investigator at the Pacific Biological Station for many years.

She was an internationally-recognized expert in polychaete worms, published widely on this group and had a number of organisms named for her. Her husband Cyril worked with her on polychaetes. The Edith Berkeley Memorial Lectures were established in the University of British Columbia in her name.
