Biografía

He was the Mate on the ship of William Dampier in 1704.

He was an English pirate and privateer who fought against the Spanish in the 18th century.

He used Clipperton Island as his base for his raids on shipping.

He quarreled with Captain Dampier and with 21 others seized a barque in the Gulf of Nicoya roaming the eastern Pacific as pirates.

They made Clipperton Island their hideout in 1705.

He sailed right around South America, raiding Spanish shipping.

He captured his old enemy the Marquis of Villa Roche, whom he treated with much respect. Later, his travels carried him to Mexico and to Macau, where he stayed as his health deteriorated.

He then sailed to Batavia (now Jakarta) in Dutch Indonesia before returning to Ireland.
