He was a mechanic at the time of his recruitment into the navy.
He was appointed as a Wireless Telegraph Operator (4th Class) RNCVR (With seniority dated 13/08/1917).
In 1918 he served in HMCS Laurentian (Auxiliary Patrol Ship) as Wireless Telegraph Operator. (He was demobilized.)
