At Queens' University he obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering, which led to a 40 - year career with The Canadian Coast Guard, beginning with lighthouse design (Cape Forchu) on the east coast and retiring in 1989 after 23 years as District Manager in Victoria.
