He was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM)-RCN -Awarded as per Canada Gazette of 5 June 1943 and London Gazetteof 2 June 1943. "During prolonged engagements with U-Boats in heavy attacks on convoys in the North Atlantic, this rating performed his duty with certainty of precision which led to sight of U-Boats on five occasions, therebycontributing to the saving of merchant ships."
