He was appointed as a Leading Seaman RCN.
He served in HMCS Spikenard 1942. (He was killed 10/02/1942 the German submarine U-136 fired four torpedoes at the convoy SC-67 south of Iceland sank the steamship Heina and HMCS Spikenard (K 198).)
