They operated the Wellington coal mines.
In 1871 this company was formed with Robert Dunsmuir, Wadham Diggle, Admiral Arthur Farquhar and four officers of H.M.S. Zealous. Diggle and Dunsmuir bought out the interests of Admiral Farquhar. Captain Egerton who purchased shares in 1873 sold out as well. Diggle moved to California.
He sold out to Dunsmuir in 12/05/1883. The company was renamed as Robert Dunsmuir & Sons with Robert as sole proprieter.
