The company was started in 1927 by Sparky and Eva New. It was taken over by their son Bill. In December 1996 he announced that the company would cease operations in February 1997 due to competition from the BC Ferry Corporation on the Bella Bella, Shearwater, Klemtu and Ocean Falls route serviced by the Tyee Princess freighter service.
