In 1887 he was a gunsmith living at Fort St., Victoria BC.
In 1900 he owned John Barnsley & Co. dealers in guns and bicycles in Victoria BC.
In 1899 he was Secretary-Manager of the Boscowitz Steamship Co.
In 1911 he was appointed as the agent of the Union Steamship Co. in Prince Rupert BC.
He was appointed as Managing Director of the Union Steamship Co. in 1922.
He was the first licenced automobile driver in the province of British Columbia in 1904.
