軍歴
He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN in 1854.
He served in H.M.S. Topaze as First Lieutenant on the Pacific Station 1859-63.
He was a member of the court martial which tried the deserters from H.M.S. Cameleon in 1863.
In 1864 he was promoted to Commander RN.
