He attended the Church Missionary College at Islington London UK.
He was ordained as a Priest in the Church of England.
He was the first missionary to the Haida in the Queen Charlotte Islands arriving on the coast in 1873 and landing at Massett 06/1876.
In 1877 he was forced to retreat with his wife in a canoe to Metlakatla.
He returned to England in 1878. where he was ordained returning to Metlakatla the following year.
In 1883 he was transferred to Kincolith.
He was an Archdeacon in 1891.
He was stationed at Kincolith from 1883-c1906 with three years at Masset.
