逸話

Bonnie Allen stated "In my father’s words: “Celebrated VE day while on patrol by “splicing the main brace”. On May 29, 1945 the “Dunver” in company with “Prince Rupert” sailed from Halifax and on June 5, 1945 we made our east to west passage through the Panama Canal, arriving in Esquimalt on June 18, 1945. “Dunver” arrived two days later in Vancouver to de-store and refit for tropical climates at Burrard Drydock.” My father remained in the RCN for a total of 31 years. During that time he served aboard other ships including the “HMCS Crescent and Ontario”.

He was selected for officer’s training in the mid-fifties and received the Queen’s Commission.

In 1963, Lt. Tyre was appointed Engineering Officer aboard the newly commissioned “HMCS Saskatchewan”. Two years were spent at Naval Headquarters in Ottawa, and until his retirement in 1971, he worked for the Ship Repair Depot at the Naden Dockyard."
