(He was qualified as a Master Mariner).
He was the marine superintendent of "rum row" running alcohol into the United States before the Second World War during Prohibition for Consolidated Liquor.
He was qualified as a Master Mariner.
He served as the Master of the Coal Harbour at the time of her capture by US authorities. “After demobilization in 1919 Captain Hudson tried hard to settle for farming in Manitoba but found it dull. After four years he had put in more money than he had pulled out. I was broke at the end of the period, and all I knew was that I wanted to get back to sea, so off I went to Vancouver, stopping first to say goodbye to my friend, the Chief of Police in Winnipeg.
He gave me several letters of introduction, one of which was to lead me to the sealing schooner captain who offered me a job on the Borealis. Frankly I didn’t know what it was all about but I soon found the Borealis wasn’t looking for seals. After a short time Captain Hudson found himself aboard the Borealis cleared from Vancouver in ballast and said outside Cape Flattery they met the parent ship which was loaded with choice booze. Loading about 1,000 cases we proceeded to some arranged rendezvous with an American vessel and transferred our cargo to her. Then we returned to Vancouver. After losing money for years on the farm and working like a ******, what a change to receive $400 for about 6 days pleasure.” (Ruth Greene Bailey Harbour & Shipping May 1964).
