It was built by the Kalevan Kansa Colonization Co. Ltd. in 1904 on Malcolm Island with a daily capacity of 10,000 board feet. With the collapse of the Kalevan Kansa in 1905 its creditor, the Dominion Trust Co. established the Marine Lumber Co. to manage and operate it was soon closed and moved off the island.
