He came to the United States in 1886 working in the tobacco industry for 87 years.
He came to Britsih Columbia in 1894 renting a farm in Metchosin BC.
In 1895 he moved to Duncan.
He was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly for British Columbia representing Esquimalt in 1900.
In 1907 he was elected to represent Cowichan.
