Anekdoten

Kevin McNeill (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 23/04/2020) stated " [I am] currently living in Nanaimo on our 37 ft Irwin centre cockpit. I joined the Naval Reserve in Montreal in 1965, my first ship was HMCS Scatari followed by HMCS Porte St. Louis, The next year HMCS Antigonish. Then I was part of the shore party for EXPO 67 and managed to break my leg. I joined the regular Navy, after recovery, as an Officer Cadet starting at HMCS Venture then off to flight school to become a pilot. Got in 3.3 solo hours before switching to the surface Navy, Back to Venture then Fleet School Halifax. Following that back to the west coast to HMCS Columbia, thence HMCS Mackenzie, HMCS Miramichi, HMCS Fundy, HMCS Restigouche and finally HMCS Saskatchewan. I then was medically discharged in 1979 and then through an administrative slip up transferred to the Naval Reserve again. Worked at Patriot Division (Albert Head) for two years then Katimavik (military option). Finally got a civilian job and moved to Prince Rupert where I was the Officer Commanding Prince Rupert Division, HMCS Discovery. Moved to Nanaimo four years later with my civilian job.

In 1999 joined Nanaimo Search and Rescue (ground), volunteer, and started my own business a year later, and I have been there ever since.Shortly after starting the business, HMCS Discovery asked me to command PBL Sidney for two months, best two months in recent memory. I design and build small boats in my spare time which there is getting more of. It’s about time to retire, and cruise this coast again."
