He went to sea at the age of 10 running his father's motor boat.
He moved to Port Alberni where he grew up.
He operated a speedboat water taxi, marine ambulance service servicing the logging camps on Barkley Sound BC.
He carried pilots to and from Cape Beale from Port Alberni.
He operated the Barkley Sound pilot boat Maureen R.
He drowned in 1950 while operating the speedboat Maureen R. .
He was the Harbour Master at Port Alberni BC at the time of his death. Afterwards the business was operated by his wife.
