He was a French naval Lieutenant who served in HMS Prince Albert (under Captain William Kennedy) in search of Franklin's Expedition in 1851-1852.
He served in HMS Phoenix (under Captain Inglefield) 1853.

Anécdotas
He drowned in Wellington Channel on his way from Beechey Island to HMS Assistance. Ther is a monument to him in fron of the Greenwhich Hospital. H ewas the author of "Journal d'un Voyage aux Mers Polaires".
