He died in a rock-climbing accident in Jasper National Park. "Leo Bilodeau attracted strong opinions. You either liked him or you loathed him. You either thought him a dedicated visionary or an arrogant steamroller. But whatever else you thought of him, you knew he was committed, enthusiastic, passionate - alive! With all his experience in the abstract concepts of interpretation, he was happiest while helping park visitors enjoy the mountain world. Anyone who has been part of a hike that Leo led; anyone who has seen him bounding among a group, stopping to exclaim about a rock, a flower, a handful of dirt; anyone who has felt a geological concept become clear under his guidance, and seen his face light up with the joy of knowledge shared, knows that his work was where he belonged.

He never lost the sense of wonder. - Leslie Taylor)
