He settled in 1880 in Chicago and Minneapolis MN USA.
In 1882 he moved with his brothers Andrew and Charles who were stonecutters and bridge builders to Winnipeg MB.
They followed railway construction west.
They had a hotel at Donald BC, and another at Beavermouth BC.
They moved to Second crossing in 1885.
They built the Central Hotel there before being joined by brothers Otto, William and Noah. All the brothers laid out the townsite of Trout Lake BC in 1891.
