He was appointed as a Chief Skipper (Temp.) RCNR (With seniority dated 01/01/1943).
He was appointed as an A/Skipper-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNR (With seniority dated 15/07/1943).
In 1944 he served in HMCS Scotian. (He was demobilized 12/10/1945.) (He was qualified with a Watchkeeping Certificate.) He was awarded the MBE "For bravery, endurance and fine seamanship in effecting the rescue of fourteen members of the crew of the Pilot Vessel Camperdown which was wrecked on Thrum Cap Shoals during a gale in February 1944."
