He served in HMS Lily (sloop).
He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 01/05/1804). (Between 1812 and 1814 he captured over 30 ships and he was wounded 17 times during his career.) He served in HMS Vertu (40 guns) 1804.
He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 17/09/1807).
He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 07/06/1814).
He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 01/09/1849). (He was retired in 1851.) He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (Retired) on 21/10/1856.
