Kyle Stubbs (Email to Nauticapedia 29/11/2022) stated "While there isn't much unusual about the AQUA LEO (1237502), this vessel was one of the few vessels posed for an unobstructed side view. She's a 2012 product of Fred Wahl Marine Construction in Reedsport, Oregon (hull 11-45-35), and is one of their smaller products from recent years, with the majority of their construction focused on 58' limit seiner hulls for Alaska fisheries. Wahl's limit seiner designs are such that many of them are over 100 GT, yet even those aren't consistently granted IMO numbers. In contrast, this one measures a mere 40 GT, but due to use in highly regulated tuna fisheries has been issued IMO 8567470. I also found it ironic that it took me ten years from build to photograph her, but after a sighting at Westport, Washington in September, this was my second time in two months crossing paths with the vessel." |
