George Duddy (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 28/11/2020) states "Strange vessel taken to the Arctic down the Mackenzie by Anglican missionaries Herbert Girling, G.E. Merritt and William Hoare. In my Nauticapedia article on "El Sueno, Arctic Yacht...." I have included a fuzzy picture of the vessel then known as the "Atkoon"at Herschel Island in 1915. The missionaries valiant efforts at travelling and surviving in the extremely hostile and remote area is described in Hoare's diaries compiled by his wife Catherine. They can be found in the NWT Archives. Hoare later went on to do valuable wildlife research for the Federal Government in the area." |
