Barry Clark states "I think that this was an unusual project for Turner’s. Dad was a woodworking craftsman and he agreed with Turner that they would provide the hull, cabin structure and engine. My father built the interior himself to meet the family’s needs. We only had the Merlin until about 1958. At that time family illnesses resulted in the sale of the cottage on Gambier Island and precluded ongoing cruising and use of the Merlin III so my father sold it."
