Built for service with the BC Provincial Fish & Game Department and the BC Provincial Police. Chris West stated "PGD3 entered service as a patrol vessel for the B.C. Government. This vessel served in the Game Protection Branch, and as Otter II in the Recreation and Forests Branch. In 1967 this vesselcame under ownership of the B.C. Forest Service where this vessel was renamed, Dean Ranger. This vessel was to spend her time in the Dean Channel area north of Vancouver Island although this vessel served most of her working life at Kitimat and Ocean Falls. She, along with a number of other Forest Service boats, went to auction in 1984 and was purchased by Jack Graham of Victoria. Jack sold her to her current owner, Chris West of Sooke, in 2001. In 2002, a 105 litre blackwater holding tank was installed. Wiring and water systems are all updated and in 2016, a 7-hp electric bow thruster was installed by Jenkins Marine Limited of Sooke. Construction materials are Yellow cedar planking on oak frames clench nailed, fir keel, gumwood shoe, gumwood sheathing, teak and gumwood brightwork. Topsides: treated cedar plywood, teak and gumwood brightwork."
