In 1939-1942 she was owned by Chosuke Nakamura, Vancouver BC Canada. In 1942 she was seized by the Canadian Government and sold by the Japanese Fishing Vessel Disposal Committee. At the time her appraised value was $21,830. She served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a patrol vessel to 1942. In 1942 her ownership was transferred to His Majesty the King andcommissioned as H.M.C.S. Surf. I In 1942 she was commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy Fisherman's Reserve.

Anecdotes
In 1941 this vessel was seized from her Japanese owners by the Canadian Government. In 1942 her ownership transferred to His Majesty the King. A sistership to the Billow, this vessel was fitted out for patrol duties at Esquimalt BC. n 1942 this vessel was used as a harbour service auxiliary vessel based at Esquimalt BC. In 1942 this vessel was tender to H.M.C.S. Givenchy. On 10/01/1943 this vesselran aground near Cape Cook BC and had to be towed back to Esquimalt BC. Afterwards this vessel was broken up.
