Rod Baker writes - "I was aboard the Solander, as one of four crew members in December of 1968. Around midnight, we were heading up the Masset inlet. We hit a reef and then the barge carrying 18,000 gallons of gasoline and some heavy equipment, ran over us crushing the aft cabin. Due to the damage sustained to the hull and topsides. We got a float plane to Skidegate and commercial flight back home." After 1969 this vessel was registered as a fishboat. On June 16, 1969 this vessel struck a rock and sank and was declared a total constructive loss. This vessel was salvaged by Rod Palm (Tofino BC) and put back into operation in the Tofino area. |
